Three Game Sweep In Southern Colorado

Three Game Sweep In Southern Colorado

In recent conference action, the Plainswomen traveled down to the southern part of the state to play three conference games this past weekend.  The Plainswomen have been playing well lately and wanted to keep their groove on this grueling road trip coming out with a few wins.  Nevertheless, the ladies were geared up and ready to play.

The first game against Lamar CC was a redemption match for the Plainswomen.  Last time they played here in Sterling, the Lopers got the upper hand by defeating NJC in five sets.  This time Northeastern was not going to relax and do their work early to get the job done.  The first set, NJC was able to win 25-17, and was shaping up to be a three set victory.  In the second set, the Plainswomen did what they did not want to do, and relaxed.  The Lopers won the second set 26-24, which was a wake up for Northeastern as this was how the last match played out.  However in the third, the Plainswomen won in dominating fashion 25-11 and then got the win by getting the fourth set as well 25-18.

With one game down and two to do on this trip, the Plainswomen still had work to do.  Trinidad would be a tough match-up if they took any sets off and allowed the Trojans to get any momentum.  With the first set going, the Plainswomen played at a high level and were able to win 25-17.  The second set was no different as they rallied points off and got the set 25-13.  In the third and final set, there was nothing holding them back and NJC was able to get their fifth set in a row with a score of 25-18.

Going into the last match, the Plainswomen were able to win the previous game rather quickly and were able to reserve some energy so they could play this match without suffering any game day blues.  The ladies knew that if they were able to get this game on this trip, the series would be a success and could go into their game against Western Nebraska with some extra confidence.  This game against the Rattlers would prove to be their toughest, by just looking at the score.  Long nights with unorthodox schedules could have played a part, but regardless a win was a win.  The Plainswomen won in three sets; 25-22, 25-23, and 25-20.

Up next, Northeastern will travel to Western Nebraska on Wednesday October 25 in another conference matchup before having their final home game on Friday October 27 versus McCook CC.
