Plainswomen Victorious At Cougar Palace

A lot of anticipation has been leading up to the rematch between the Plainswomen and the Cougars at Scottsbluff.  This rematch would come after Northeastern had beaten the Cougars in five sets, which would drop Western in national rankings.  The Plainswomen knew that going into this match that the Cougars would want redemption, so they needed to play solid fundamentally and not give up free points.

The first set, the Plainswomen would play smart and execute their schemes, which would allow them to pull away at the end win 25-23.  The ladies knew that they needed to get the first set if they wanted a chance at reclaiming victory at the Cougar Palace, and after getting the first one they had laid the foundation.

With the second set underway, the Plainswomen had to keep the momentum rolling, because if it were anything like last time they played, the Cougars would attack with vengeance.  Northeastern would stay persistent in their play and execute once again to win set two 25-23.  Going into the intermission, morale was high and the Plainswomen knew they had the Cougars right where they wanted them.  Being up two sets on Western Nebraska at their place was what they wanted to do because having every advantage on the road helps.

After the break, the ladies were ready to go and wanted to get the three game sweep on the road; but how would WNCC react to being down two sets at the Cougar Palace.  The only thing that the Plainswomen could do was repeat what happened in the first two sets, hoping the results would be the same, which is exactly what happened.  The Plainswomen would roll off points and be focused in on the task at hand and defeat the Cougars 25-21.

After that win, Northeastern would get the regular season sweep over the Cougars, which helps them tremendously in Region IX standings.

The Plainswomen's last home game will be on Friday October 27 as they host McCook CC with the match beginning at 7:00 pm.  Additionally, the sophomores Emily McCurley, Noel Phillips, and Bailey Schumacher will be recognized for their dedication to the Plainswomen volleyball program.
