Plainswomen Finish Regular Season Play

Plainswomen Finish Regular Season Play

The last home match for the Plainswomen would also be their last conference game as well last Friday night.  The girls were looking to get a victory to help them place at a high seed for the Region IX tournament.  After that game, they would then get to compete at Western Nebraska in an invite for a few tune up games before heading into the Region tournament.  With all that lined up for the girls, all that was left to do was play.

In the first game against McCook, the Plainswomen knew the Indians had the talent to squeak a win out of the match if they did not play well.  But if the Plainswomen handled their business, then there would be nothing to worry about.

In the first set, Northeastern was able to get the first set 25-22, but it was apparent that McCook was ready to play.  In the second set, NJC was able to get a lead and sustain in and defeat them 25-15.  In the third however, the Indians were able to play well and take a set from the Plainswomen by defeating them 28-26.  The fourth was another set in which the Indians came to play.  The Plainswomen however were able to stay calm and chip away and edge them out at the end to get the win 32-30.  That win helped the Plainswomen seal the #1 spot in their division.

The next day, the Plainswomen had the chance to play some unfamiliar teams in the WNCC Invite in Scottsbluff, NE.  These games would help the women tune up some of their skills before heading into the Region IX tournament.  These games would count against their overall record, but not their conference record so trying different schemes could be done if needed.

In the first game, the women would play San Jacinto College-Central.  These #12 ranked team from Texas was one who the ladies knew nothing about, so it was a perfect time to play their game.  The Plainswomen would hold their own in the first two sets, but in the third did not fare so well and lost in three (25-20, 25-22, 25-8).

The next game would be against another unfamiliar opponent, so once again they would have to play Plainswomen volleyball.  The first set was a battle, but NJC was able to get the win at the end 27-25.  The second set, Laredo was able to get the edge over Northeastern and won 25-19.  In the third and fourth set, it was all Plainswomen as they won 25-15 and 25-22.

The Plainswomen finished their regular season with an overall record of 22-7 and 9-1 in conference.  The Plainswomen will head into the Region IX tournament as the #1 seed for the south division.
