Plainswomen Down #9 Laramie County; Defeat North Platte

Aug. 30, 2019, Sterling, Colo. —  In their two most recent road games, the Northeastern Junior College (NJC) Plainswomen volleyball team traveled to Cheyenne, Wyo. and North Platte, Neb. to play the Laramie County Community College (LCCC) Golden Eagles and the North Platte Community College (NPCC) Knights. The Golden Eagles ranked ninth in the nation according to the National Junior College Athletic Association preseason poll. With the Plainswomen ranked 14th in the nation, it was shaping up to be a tough match.

In the first set, NJC was able to string together a few points late to get the 25-21 win over LCCC, but struggled in the second to fall 25-18. The sets were tied 1-1, and the Golden Eagles took the 2-1 lead by winning set three 25-19. Northeastern needed to buckle down and get the next two in order to walk out of there with the victory. They did just that as they won set four 25-16 and set five 15-6.

After a long night, the Plainswomen had to travel the following day to North Platte, Neb. to play against the Knights. Despite being tired and clocking many hours on the bus, the Plainswomen were ready to play. The first set went the distance as it went past the typical 25 points as Northeastern fell 31-29. The next three is where NJC shined as they won 25-18, 25-15, and 25-22 to win 3-1 over NPCC.

The Plainswomen will travel to Denver, Colo. to play against Johnson and Wales on Tuesday Sept. 3 before having their home opener against NPCC on Sept. 5 at 6 p.m.
