Northeastern Volleyball Adds 10 for 2021 Season

Northeastern Volleyball Adds 10 for 2021 Season

Sterling, Colo., – Northeastern Volleyball Head Coach Mackenzie Chrisman announces her 2021 recruiting class. Northeastern Volleyball is scheduled to arrive on campus on August 2 for the 2021 season. This class comes from four different states and one from New Zealand. Last season the Plainswomen finished 22-10 with a 10th place finish at the NJCAA National Tournament. Chrisman is confident that this recruiting class will help the Plainswomen improve in areas that they have struggled in the past.
"I am extremely excited about this incoming class. We are adding a lot of height which is really going to help us in blocking. All the girls that we are bringing in know how to win. Whether it be from their high schools, clubs, or both, these girls are extremely successful and will do whatever it takes to get the job done. We are bringing in several girls who were multiple sport athletes in high school, and I love that. Playing multiple sports trains different parts of your body and make you a well-rounded athlete," Chrisman said.
These newcomers aren't messing around. The new Plainswomen have been hitting the weight room this summer, and several have been competing with their clubs. They have had several players competing at Nationals with their clubs and were very successful there. These players are coming in and are going to be fighting for starting positions. Northeastern has a roster this year of 17 players with all positions up for grabs. Last year NJC didn't have a lot of depth, and that was something Chrisman wanted this year. It's going to be a battle day in and day out for who will be playing.
NJC returns seven sophomores, all of who saw playing time but several who played pivotal roles in their success.
Mayson Fago returns after playing in every match, averaging 2.33 kills per set, and was the third-leading scorer on the team.
Jade Feather was the Plainswomen's starting libero all last season. She earned Region IX Freshmen and Libero of the year on the way to tallying 509 digs while averaging 4.35 per set.
Andie Anderson will return as the only sophomore setter. Last season Andie was a part of the Plainswomen's 6-2 offense, where she had 470 assists and averaged 4.09 assists per set. She also tallied 177 digs. NJC will also return defensive specialist Alyssa Winter, middle blocker Noelle Meagher, outside hitter Helin Halden, and defensive specialist Lana McKee.

"I think the newcomers are going to fit in well with the returners that we have. We have seven returners, all of who saw playing time last year. Three of them were permanent starters for us, but that was last year. Last year we finished 10th, and I thought we were better than that, but we didn't have a good showing in the first round," Chrisman noted. "These student-athletes that we are bringing in, I believe are going to help us go farther than we did last year. Last year we didn't win the Region IX title, which is a goal we will be fighting for this year. If they commit to what Assistant Coach Keegan Fornoff and I have planned, we have a chance to do great things this year."
