Northeastern Volleyball Plays Tough at 38th Annual Sheila Worley Invitational Presented by the Eastern Plains Sports Network

Sterling, Colo...

The Plainswomen volleyball team competed at 38th Annual Sheila Worley Invitational presentated by the Eastern Plains Sports Network on September 10th (Utah State Eastern) and 11th (Iowa Western CC).  NJC hosted three other teams which included Western Nebraska Community College, Iowa Western Community College and Utah State Eastern College.  All teams that came to Sterling to compete are very solid teams and Northeastern knew the games they would have would be very tough games.

(Match Recap 9/10) Plainswomen vs. Utah State Eastern = Loss 3-2

Set #1 - USE-26 NJC-24 (Loss)

Set #2 - NJC-26 USE-24 (Win)

Set #3 - USE-25 NJC-23 (Loss)

Set #4 - NJC-25 USE-21 (Win)

Set #5 - USE-15 NJC-13 (Loss)

Breakdown: NJC had three players with double digit kills, Lacy Hunt with 10, Caley Harper with 10 and Mayson Fago with 14.  Plainswomen also had two players with double-doubles, Andie Anderson with 23 assists, 15 digs and Mayson Fago with 14 kills, 18 digs.  Bench players Helin Halden and Kaytlin Smart gave the Plainswomen lots of energy with a combined 8 blocks and 7 kills.  Very good game for NJC to play a top ten nationally ranked team, battle like they did and unfortunately came up short in the 5th set losing by 2 points.  The team has the ability to compete at this level of play, just need to clean up a few costly errors down the stretch.

Match Recap (9/11) Plainswomen vs. Iowa Western CC = Loss 3-0

Set #1 - IWCC-25 NJC-14 (Loss)

Set #2 - IWCC-25- NJC-20 (Loss)

Set #3 - IWCC-25 NJC-16 (Loss)

Breakdown:  Tough loss against Iowa Western Community College who is ranked #1 nationally in NJCAA D1 Volleyball.  It's great for the Plainswomen to get out and compete against such great teams and build the experience for the younger players.  Back row did a great job putting us in the system but hitters weren't able to execute on demand like the previous night.  Sophmore Mayson Fago tallyed a total of 6 kills while freshman Allie Schumacher recorded a double-double with 11 assists and 10 digs.  Coach Chrisman said she is "excited about the way her team played against these great teams.  We look to take this experience and play hard in our next tournament this coming weekend."
