Region IX Tournament Up Next For The Plainswomen

Sterling, Colo...

The NJC volleyball team finished off their regular season with two big wins this past weekend against Trinidad State College and Otero Junior College.  Coming off of a 9 game winning streak, the Plainswomen extended the streak to 11 games, which puts them in a great position to end the regular season.  Northeastern now is in control of their destiny for the 21-22 season as they finish with a final regular season record of 20-10, which includes an 11 game winning streak and a 10-0 conference record to add to the mix.  Not only did the Plainswomen play well enough to represent the #1 seed for the south in the Region IX tournament, they also find themselves at #13 in the NJCAA national rankings.  The Plainswomen travel to Scottsbluff for the Region IX tournament this week, in which their first game will take place at 7pm on Wednesday, November 3rd.  NJC will face the winner of an earlier game in the day between Laramie County Community College and Trinidad State College.  A first or second place in the Region IX tournament will grant them their third consecutive trip to the NJCAA national tournament.

Breakdown: NJC wasted no time in the first two sets as they completely dominated the Trojans from first serve to last serve.  However, it seemed as though the Plainswomen lost focus and momentum as they dropped two straight close sets as they just couldn't edge out Trinidad to finish the match.  A 5th set was ultimately played and the Plainswomen took care of business and beat out the Trojans in the game to 15.  Sophmore's Mayson Fago and Helin Halden came up big with a combined 28 kills to lead NJC's attack.  Jade Feather recorded 28 total digs in the match, which put her over the 1000 mark in her career at NJC.  Allie Schumacher tallied a total of 27 assists while Andie Anderson recorded a double-double with 21 assists and 13 digs.

(Game Recap 10/30) Plainswomen vs. Otero Junior College = Won 3-2

Breakdown: The Plainswomen found themselves down 2 sets to 1 against a struggling Otero team.  NJC couldn't find a rhythm early in which their set plays were off and they couldn't get into the system.  With a match loss lingering in set 4, NJC turned it around and made quick work of the Rattlers, eventually taking the 5th set as well for another win.  Mayson Fago and Allie Schumacher both recorded double-doubles in the victory.  Lacy Hunt and Kaytlin Smart both recorded 9 kills on the NJC attack while Jade Feather and Faith Trenkle stayed strong on the defensive with a combined 37 digs.
