Former Plainswoman Named New Assistant Coach

On Tuesday, March 8th, Northeastern Head Coach Mackenzie Chrisman announced Taylor Burns as the next Assistant Coach of Northeastern Volleyball. After compiling a successful 24-12 record, a Region IX Title, and a top 12 finish at Nationals, Coach Chrisman began the process of looking for a new assistant following the departure of Keegan Fornoff.

"I was extremely impressed with Taylor's interview. She played for me my first year at NJC when I was the assistant coach and she has grown so much since then. I believe Taylor will come in and make an impact right away. She bleeds black and gold and knows the standards I have for our program. I have already been in contact with her for ideas that I have for next season and I'm excited to get fully started with her."

Taylor knows NJC extremely well, not only was she a student-athlete, but she was a RA, a work-study for our Assistant Athletic Director, and the vice president for Northeastern's SAAC.

"Northeastern has made a major impact on my life, my experiences made me want to come back and be a part of the Northeastern family again. I am originally from Aurora, Colo., where I played at Smoky Hill High School and from there I made my way to Sterling, Colo., This is where my team and I were able to become Region IX Champions, I was also able to be a part of the All-Region Team." Burns said. "After my two years at Northeastern, I finished my volleyball career at Tabor College, where I was able to be a part of Third Team All-Conference for two seasons. This is also where I found a new passion for coaching. After having the opportunity to play for Northeastern, I am very excited to play a new role in the success of the program and to be a part of and build off of the hardworking and grit culture the program has created."

"Taylor knows what it takes to win and she has proved that. She will likely be in charge of our middle training as well as our offensive schemes. This will allow me to focus more on our defensive schemes as well as working with our setters. I believe Taylor will bring a fun and positive atmosphere into our gym and help us get to that next level," Chrisman said.

Taylor's first day will be June 1, 2022.
