Andrew Kachel was named the Head Baseball Coach in the fall of 2019

Kachel returned to Northeastern, this time as a coach, in the fall of 2014.  Kachel played collegiately for Northeastern Junior College, Montana State-Billings, and Colorado State University-Pueblo.  Since ending his college baseball career, he has coached for the Springfield Sliders of the Prospect League as Head Assistant, Colorado State University-Pueblo as a Player/Coach, the Colorado Springs Renegades/Cutthroats of the Mile High Collegiate Baseball League as a Head Coach and GM, Adams State University as a Head Assistant Coach and helped start their first-year program, and served as the Pitching and Recruiting Coach at the University of Sioux Falls.

A catcher throughout high school and college, Kachel was part of Northeastern Junior College's first-ever Region IX Championship. He underwent Tommy John surgery in 2009 but returned in 2010 to lead the NJC Plainsmen in batting average.

Kachel attended Doherty High School, where he still holds the Spartans’ single-season RBI record (36) and ranks in the top-5 in batting average. A three-time all-conference pick, Kachel led Doherty to Metro League Conference titles in 2004, 2005 and 2007. As a senior, he participated in the 2007 Colorado Top 50 Game at Coors Field, which showcased the top 50 high school baseball players in the state of Colorado.

Kachel also played on the 2007 Pan American squad in Aruba and was also a member of the 2007 Connie Mack World Series Host team, the Farmington Cardinals.

Between all of the coaching stops along the way, Kachel has also been fortunate to have recruited and coached Josh Keaton at Adams State University who was selected by the Baltimore Orioles in 2017. He also coached multiple players with the Springfield Sliders that went on to be drafted: Ryan Aper, who was selected in the sixth round by the Miami Marlins in the 2012 MLB Draft, Mike Fitzgerald who was selected by the San Diego Padres in 2014, and Mathew Tellor who was selected by the Atlanta Braves in 2014.

Kachel earned his Associates degree from Northeastern, Bachelor's Degree in exercise science from CSU-Pueblo, and a Master’s Degree in exercise science and coaching from Adams State University.

Coach Kachel is supported by his wife Amber Kachel and daughter Charlie Kachel.
