Plainsmen Open at Home With Wins

The Plainsmen baseball team would host the Williston State Tetons in their home opener at Plainsmen Park.  Northeastern has been on the road for their first two series to begin the season, so they were happy to get back on their home field.  The Tetons had traveled some distance as they came from the northwest corner of North Dakota, so bus legs could become an X factor coming into these games.

The first game, the Plainsmen would establish their dominance by scoring a few runs right off the bat.  They would do a good job at getting their men in and keeping the Tetons from scoring with good defense and great pitching.  All that hard work would go out the door when one bad inning would strike the Plainsmen.  In the top of six, with the Plainsmen leading, Northeastern would get stung by the error bug and could not shake it.  The Plainsmen would give up six runs in the one inning to allow the Tetons back in the game.  With the game now at 7-6, the Plainsmen needed to look past that inning and be able to regain focus to bring homme the win.  Before they could gather themselves, the Tetons would get one more in the top of seven to tie the game up.  In the last half inning of the game, NJC could not get the sticks rolling and would go scoreless, forcing the game into extra innings.  In the top of eight, the Plainsmen would do their job defensively and hold WSC from scoring, and would bring up the meat of their batting order.  In the bottom of eight, the Plainsmen would get a few men on, and a single hit would drive the winning run in giving the Plainsmen the 8-7 victory.

In the second game of the day, the Plainsmen had gotten the home field jitters out of their system and would play the ball they knew they could play.  The Plainsmen would drive in runs and play sound defense, which would give initiate the run rule, and give the Plainsmen the 11-1 win.  The Plainsmen will host the Tetons for another double header tomorrow (Tuesday February 27) with the first pitch starting at 12 noon.  Come out and support your Plainsmen with some sunshine and baseball at Plainsmen Park!
