Plainsmen Fall To Vaqueros

Plainsmen Fall To Vaqueros

The Plainsmen baseball team began their spring break trip against a tough Central Arizona team.  The Vaqueros are currently ranked #18 in the latest NJCAA polls, so Northeastern knew they would have a ballgame to play.  Playing top teams is exactly what Coach Shepherd wanted to do with the spring trip, because to be the best, you have to play the best.

The game would begin with both teams play solid defensively in both the first and second inning.  In the top of the third, the Plainsmen would be stopped by CAC, but then the Vaqueros would break the ice, as they would get one run in to lead NJC 1-0.  In the following inning, Central Arizona would extend their lead with two runs, which made the Plainsmen focus up and start to play ball.  The next three innings would be a draw as neither team would score, which was half of the Plainsmen's plan.  They needed to keep CAC scoreless, in which they did, but were hoping to get a few runs out of it.  The next two inning were crucial for Northeastern as they knew it was their last chances at being able to chip away at their lead.  Try they did, but successful they were not.  The Vaqueros were able to hold the Plainsmen again while they would add four runs of their own, which would ultimately be the final score of 7-0.

The Plainsmen knew Central Arizona was a top program in the nation, so it was nothing for them to hang their head about.  They played well, but were unable to get the hits they needed to allow them to get the Vaqueros on their heels.  Northeastern will have their next game against the Coyotes from Chandler-Gilbert.
