Northeastern Could Not Catch A Break In Lamar Series

In a three game road series, the Plainsmen baseball team would have a tough go at the games despite playing well.  In two of the three games, the Plainsmen would put themselves in great position by gaining a lead, but the Lopes would get in a big rally with short hits to the outfield and hits with big hops, which would result in no plays. 

In the first game, Northeastern's effort to come back from down nine runs in the sixth inning came up just short, as they fell 16-14 to Lamar. The Plainsmen scored eight runs in the failed comeback. Jaxon Rosencranz, Ben Newton, Quinn Tomasino, Easton Adler, Rosencranz, and Davyn Adamscheck all picked up RBIs in the rally.  Northeastern fell behind early in the loss as Lamar scored on a home run in the first inning, a single in the second inning, a single in the second inning, a single in the second inning, a triple in the second inning, and a single in the second inning.  The Lopes pulled away for good with seven runs in the second inning. Northeastern scored four runs in the eighth inning which was led by Quinn Tomasino, Easton Adler, Jaxon Rosencranz, and Davyn Adamscheck, all knocking in runs in the inning.  Two home runs helped the Plainsmen as Keegan Meyn had a homer in the second inning and Jaxon Rosencranz put one out in the third inning. Despite the loss, NJC tallied 13 hits with Newton, Rosencranz, and Meyn all having three hits.

A new day would bring a new game.   Northeastern jumped out to an early lead over Lamar and took home a 7-3 victory on Saturday. The Plainsmen scored on a single by Corbin Geisendorf, a single by Davyn Adamscheck, and a groundout by Kodee Martin in the second inning.  The men pulled away for good with three runs in the second inning as Geisendorf singled on a 3-2 count, scoring one run, Adamscheck singled on a 1-1 count, scoring one run, and Martin grounded out, scoring one run.  In the fourth, Adamscheck, Martin, and Easton Adler each had RBIs in the big inning to help them extend their lead again.  Graham Cahill was the winning pitcher by surrendering three runs on five hits over six innings. Trystan Kimmel threw one inning in relief out of the bullpen.  The Plainsmen scattered 11 hits in the game with Adamscheck, Ben Newton, Quinn Tomasino, Geisendorf, and Adler each racked up multiple hits.

That win would help boost the men's energy going into the final game.  They wanted to at least get two of the three of the series, but the Lopes snuck it out in the end.  The Plainsmen stayed in it until the end, but Lamar pulled away late in a 10-4 victory on Saturday. The game was tied at four with the Lopes batting in the bottom of the sixth when they doubled on the first pitch of the at bat, scoring one run.  Northeastern got things moving in the first inning as they scored one run when Easton Adler doubled.  Jordan Chappell started the game for Northeastern by pitching four and two-thirds innings, allowing seven hits and three runs while striking out six.  The Plainsmen had nine hits in the game. Adler, Ben Newton, and Kodee Martin each racked up multiple hits with Adler going 3-for-4 at the plate to lead the team in hits.

The men will be at home to finish the month as they host the Rattler from Otero.
