Tough Road Loss For Northeastern

Tough Road Loss For Northeastern

The Plainsmen baseball team recently traveled to Scottsbluff, NE to face off against the Western Nebraska Community College Cougars.  Northeastern would try to get their bats rolling, but WNCC's defense would stay strong.  The first game would go into extra innings where the Plainsmen would come up short, and the second would end in a 12-0 loss.  These two losses do not help nor hinder NJC in their rankings if they continue to win out.

The first game was intense with neither team getting players across the plate for runs.  The Plainsmen had a tough time getting it by the Cougar defense, which would show at the end of the game.  Northeastern would score first with two runs in the fourth, while WNCC would cut the lead in half by scoring one in the bottom of four.  The Plainsmen would push the lead to 3-1 in the sixth, but the Cougars would tie it up in the bottom half of that inning by scoring two runs.  The game would go scoreless until the 10th inning where the Cougars would win on a walk-off balk.  Although it was an undesirable loss at the end, the Plainsmen battled the entire game.

The second game was a rough day in the office for the Plainsmen offensively.  Northeastern would only get two hits in the game, which would be their demise with a 12-0 loss.  Although they were unable to get a win this weekend, they are still sitting pretty in the Region IX standings.  The men will travel to McCook on Friday and then back at home on Monday with games against Western Nebraska again.
