Pickett Pitches; Strilchuk and Newton Lead In RBI’s

The Plainsmen baseball team would travel to McCook, NE to play against the Indians in a Region IX Conference game.  Northeastern had recently lost against the Cougars, so getting this game against McCook would help them regroup before hosting the Cougars once more.  The Plainsmen would have no trouble with McCook, and everyone would have great at bats.

The game would start with NJC scoring four runs in their first at bat of the game, and then holding the Indians scoreless.  The second would have zero scoring from both teams, but in the third, fourth, and fifth, the Plainsmen would score one, one, and three runs extending their lead to 9-0.  Gunner Pickett would have himself a day on the mound by only giving up three hits, one run, and eight strikeouts.  In the seventh and final inning, the Plainsmen would tack on another crooked number as they would get six men across the plate, making it a 15-0 ball game.  The Indians would get their lone run in the last half inning of the game, which was too little too late. 

Russell Strilchuk and Ben Newton would lead the Plainsmen in RBI's with three, with Strilchuk hitting a homerun.  Easton Adler would also get a pair of RBI's off one hit.

The Plainsmen will take the energy from this game and use it as they host the WNCC Cougars on Monday April 30.
