Baseball Grabs Big Wins Over Trinidad

In the final regular season series of the year, the Plainsmen baseball team would host the Trinidad State Trojans.  The Trojans were ranked at as the number one seed in the Region, so winning a few games against them could shake up the seeding.  With the alumni association hosting a BBQ and Mother Nature cooperating, the day was shaping to be a good day.

The first game of the series would come down to Corbin Geisendorf getting the walk off win in the last half inning of play.  Before any of that excitement would happen, the game would begin with Trinidad taking the 2-0 lead before the Plainsmen were able to score and take the 3-2 lead in the bottom of two.  Not to make it easy, the Trojans would put up three runs to regain the 5-3 lead.  Northeastern would gain a run back as they would score in the bottom of the third to make it a 5-4 game.  In the bottom of the fifth, NJC would tie it up at five a piece.  The game would go scoreless until the bottom of the seventh when Geisendorf would win it.  Northeastern would get a man on with a walk, and then with two outs, Geisendorf would hit a liner to left center to win it with a score of 6-5.

While riding on a high note, the Plainsmen wanted to keep it rolling into the second game.  That high note would be brought down as the Trojans would open the game up with two runs, runs in which the Plainsmen could not answer.  In the second, Trinidad would add one more, but NJC would match, making it a 3-1 ballgame.  In the bottom of five, Northeastern would get one more run to bring the score within a run.  The last run of the game would belong to TSJC as they would get another man across the plate, and the game would finish with the score of 4-2.

The next day would bring the final game of not only the series, but of the regular season.  The men wanted to go out with a bang and give the sophomores a win on their home field; and they did just that.  The Plainsmen would start the game by scoring two runs, and would keep the run train coming in the fifth as they would score one more.  In the bottom of the sixth, NJC would get two more runs to make it a 5-0 ballgame.  The Plainsmen would keep the Trojans scoreless and keep them to only four hits.  The shutout win would be recorded to Javis Steward as he would pitch six innings, with Cole Halpin contributing two innings and Trystan Kimmel putting in one.

With the regular season over, the Plainsmen will head into the Region IX tournament as the three seed and will play Lamar CC in the opening round.
