NJC Wins Miles City CC Series

Northeastern baseball continued its home stand run as they competed against Miles City CC this past weeknd at Plainsmen Park.  A double header was scheduled for both Saturday and Sunday with beautiful weather on tap.  The Plainsmen handled Miles City CC in both games on Saturday and split them on Sunday.  McCook Community College who is 5-4 on the season comes to town this weekend for a 3 game series with NJC.  First pitch on Sunday is at 1pm and Monday's double header first pitches will be thrown at 12pm and 2:30pm.

(Game Recap 2/19) Plainsmen vs. Miles City CC = Won 7-1

Breakdown: NJC got off to a slow start, but things came together in the 3rd inning when they put up 4 runs, giving them a 5-0 lead.  Timely hits helped the Plainsmen cause and Miles City CC struck out 11 times.  Sage Ferguson put together a solid performance as he struck out 7 and only gave up 1 hit for his 2nd win on the season.  Mason Sauter had a solid game at the plate going 2-3 recording 3 RBI's and a stolen base.  Jaylan Ruffin put up two hits in 4 plate appearances, scoring both times when on base.

(Game Recap 2/19) Plainsmen vs. Miles City CC = Won 8-5

Breakdown: The 2nd game of the double header got off to a better start for NJC.  Getting a quick 3 runs in the 1st inning and adding two more in the 3rd, Northeastern was out in front 5-2 after 3.  Miles City CC tried to creep back in the 7th, but came up short.  Stevins Spurgeon took the mound for NJC.  Spurgeon went 3.2 innings giving up 3 hits, 2 earned runs and struck out 5.  Sophomore Mason Sauter again played solid at DH, going 1-2 with a double and 3 RBI's.  5 Plainsmen recorded doubles and 2 players with 2 RBI's or more.  Northeastern also stole 9 bases in the contest.

(Game Recap 2/20) Plainsmen vs. Miles City CC = Won 11-6

Breakdown: Northeastern came out swinging to start out the 2nd day of the series.  NJC scored 8 of their 11 runs in the first 3 innings.  Clay Sanger took the start, but Jeffrey Behrends ended up pitching the majority of the game putting in 5.2 innings striking out 6 and giving up 5 hits.  Cameron Leach went perfect from the plate going 3-3 with a double, 3 stolen bases and 2 RBI's.  Jackson Trout went .500 in the game recording 2 hits, 1 that included a double and 2 RBI's.  Plainsmen were hot on the bases again stealing 8 against MCCC.

(Game Recap 2/20) Plainsmen vs. Miles City CC = Loss 9-8

Breakdown: Miles City CC was hot at the plate early as they scored all 9 of their runs by the 5th inning, holding onto a 9-3 lead.  A very exciting comeback ensued for Northeastern as they scored 5 in the 7th inning, but ultimately came up short by 1 run to take the only loss of the weekend series.  NJC's Mason Sauter came through with a homerun and 3 RBI's.  Zach Boone went 2-2 at the plate with a home run, 2 RBI's and a stolen base.  Shortstop Calvin Davis also chipped in 2 RBI's with a stolen base.  Plainsmen put 4 different pitchers on the mound in the contest, but Cole Adams seen the majority of the time facing 16 batters and striking out 4.
