NJC Sweeps Adams State JV Series

Plainsmen baseball dominated the Adams State University JV squad this past weekend down in Alamosa.  As the weather still tinkers around winter-like conditions, it was positive to have the team back out competing again as their last series was canceled due to weather.  Northeastern continues the season this coming weekend on the road as they play regional games with Trinidad State College.  The Trojans are currently ahead of NJC in the standings, so these games will be pivital for the Plainsmen to win.  The four game series will include two games on Saturday the 19th and two games on Sunday the 20th.  First pitches will be thrown at 1pm and 3:30pm both days.

(Game Recap 3/12) Plainsmen vs. Adams State JV = Won 2-1

Breakdown: Tight game that either team could've won.  Northeastern scores 2 runs in 1st inning, then none the rest of the game which ended up being enough.  Mason Sauter knocked in both of NJC's runs in the 1st inning on his only hit of the game.  Zach Boone who hit in the DH spot for the game, had a triple and stolen base.  Starting pitcher Sage Ferguson took his 3rd win of the season as he faced 8 batters, striking out 2 and walking 1.  Cameron Leach came in at the end of the game to secure his first save of the season.

(Game Recap 3/12) Plainsmen vs. Adams State JV = Won 19-7

Breakdown: Big bats from NJC racked up a lot of runs quick.  A 6-run 5th and 6th inning put Adams State in a lot of trouble and never recovered.  Northeastern's Clay Sanger took the mound and went 3 solid innings striking out 4 and only gave up 1 hit.  Left fielder Zach Boone absolutely dominated the plate going 2-4 with 2 home runs and 4 RBI's.  Sophomore Alex Alva had himself a game as well going 3-4 from the plate with a triple, 2 stolen bases and 3 RBI's.  Catcher Guillermo Guzman had 3 hits on the day that included a triple and 3 RBI's.  The Plainsmen had 19 hits and only 3 strikeouts.

(Game Recap 3/13) Plainsmen vs. Adams State JV = Won 17-8

Breakdown: Northeastern was down early, regained the lead and then never looked back.  A 6-run 2nd and 6th inning were to overpowering for Adams State as the game was blown wide open.  Plainsmen pitcher Stevins Spurgeon had another terrific outing on the mound as he pitched 2 innings, struck out 4 and had 1 earned run in his 4th win on the season.  Third baseman Kaben Steenbock lit up the ASU JV pitchers at the plate going 2-4 with a homerun and 4 RBI's.  Zach Boone and Charlie Hilgers also had great games from the plate as each of them recorded 3 RBI's.  NJC had a total of 17 hits.

(Game Recap 3/13) Plainsmen vs. Adams State JV = Won 16-10

Breakdown: Adams State JV had a 6-2 lead going into the 4th inning, then NJC turned on the bats and pounded out several runs to comeback and win the game by 6.  Northeastern scored at least 3 runs or more in the final 4 innings.  DH Donovan Jackson had his way with the Grizzlies going 3-3 with 2 doubles and 5 RBI's.  First baseman Will Togher went 2-4 from the plate knocking in 3 RBI's.  Caleb Rozier stole 2 bases for NJC.  Chase McCreath had to relieve Clay Adams after 2 innings on the mound and was able to strike out 6 and only give up 1 hit on his 1st win of the season.
