Plainsmen Split Series Against Trinidad

For the second time this month, the Northeastern baseball team made a trip to southern Colorado, this time to face a Region IX conference team.  NJC was able to split the series, however, they easily could've came away with at least 3 wins as two bad innings in two games cost them a pair of losses.  Next up the Plainsmen face Western Nebraska Community College at Plainsmen Park in Sterling on Thursday, March 24th at 2pm.  Only 1 game will be played in this series.  Following up the single game, Otero College comes to town for a weekend series with NJC.

(Game Recap 3/19) Plainsmen vs. Trinidad State = Loss 15-2

Breakdown: NJC was within reach of winning, until a massive 5th inning by the Trojans ended those hopes.  The score was 3-2 in favor of the Trojans until they put up 12 unanswered runs.  Sage Ferguson took the mound and went 4 innings, striking out 3 while giving up 9 earned runs.  Second baseman Trey Adams went 2-2 from the plate with an RBI.  Plainsmen were out hit 14-6.

(Game Recap 3/19) Plainsmen vs. Trinidad State = Won 8-4

Breakdown: A 5 run second inning for Northeastern proved to be too much for the Trojans.  NJC boundced back from an early deficit.  Zach Boone had only 1 hit, but that hit was a 3 run shot beyond the fences.  Trey Adams again was hot from the plate getting 2 hits and 3 RBI's along with a stolen base.  Clay Sanger gets the nod on the start and took his 3rd win on the season, giving up 6 hits with 4 earned runs.  Plainsmen struck out 10 times to the Trojans 3.

(Game Recap 3/20) Plainsmen vs. Trinidad State = Won 7-5

Breakdown: Some late runs came in handy for Northeastern as they took the 2nd win of the road series.  Stevins Spurgeon again pitched well taking him to his 5th win on the season as he struck out 2, giving up 7 hits.  Caleb Rozier hit a two-run shot on his only hit of the game, but also managed a sacrafice fly.  Zach Boone did his part as the DH with 2 hits that generated 2 RBI's.  Calvin Davis went 2-2 from the plate.  Both teams ended up with 9 hits in the contest. 

(Game Recap 3/20) Plainsmen vs. Trinidad State = Loss 14-4

Breakdown: Northeastern went through 6 pitchers in a tough loss that folded in the last inning.  NJC held the lead going into the 6th inning, but a 12 run explosion by the Trojans ended any hopes for a Plainsmen win.  Guillermo Guzman and Caleb Rozier both went yard ball in the contest.  Calvin Davis played 2nd base in the contest while knocking in 2 runs on 2 hits.  Trojans rallied on 15 hits and only 4 strikeouts.
