Plainsmen Score 26 Runs Against Western Nebraska

Plainsmen baseball put up a big number against rival Western Nebraska Community College last week in their single game contest.  NJC scored 26 runs in their route of the Cougars at Plainsmen Park.  Over the weekend, Northeastern played other conference rival Otero College in a two day, 4-game series.  Taking 3-4 from the Rattlers improved NJC's season record to 20-15, good enough for 3rd place in Region IX.  Next up the Plainsmen travel to Las Vegas, New Mexico to face Luna Community College on their home field.  Luna CC is 5-32 on the season, which should give NJC favorable odds in sweeping the series.  Game times are 12pm & 2:30pm for both Saturday, April 2nd and Sunday, April 3rd.  This series starts a lengthy road trip for NJC.

(Game Recap 3/24) Plainsmen vs. Western Nebraska CC = Won 26-14

Breakdown: Game called in 7 innings.  NJC scored at least 1 run in each of the 7 innings, blowing out the Cougars.  Cole Adams took the start and faced the most batters, but pitcher Brian Walters ended up getting his 2nd win on the season.  Mason Sauter destroyed WNCC at the plate as he went 3-3 with a double, 2 homeruns and 8 RBI's.  Nick Schumacher also put a hurting on the Cougars from the plate as he went 3-4 with 2 homeruns, 2 stolen bases and 7 RBI's.  Caleb Rozier also got a piece of the action with a homerun and 4 RBI's.  Northeastern ended the game with 22 hits.   

(Game Recap 3/26) Plainsmen vs. Otero College = Won 11-1

Breakdown: Game called in 5 innings.  NJC was tied with the Rattlers going into the 4th inning, but that's when the bats kicked in.  A 4 and 5 run inning to end the game early was a nice touch for the Plainsmen.  Leading the way was shortstop Trey Adams.  Adams went 2-3 from the plate that included a yardball and 4 RBI's.  DH Zach Boone also went 2-3, snatching a double and going yard ball that gained him 2 RBI's.  Northeastern's Sage Ferguson pitched a complete game shutout in the contest.  He struck out 7 and only gave up 3 hits.

(Game Recap 3/26) Plainsmen vs. Otero College = Won 6-4

Breakdown: A much closer battle for the Plainsmen in the 2nd game of the series.  The game was tied going into NJC's last at bat, but the Northeastern players stepped up and secured the win with timely hits.  Clay Sanger pitched 6 solid innings, but was unable to come up with a win during his performace as reliever Cameron Leach took the win.  Trey Adams went 2-4 at the plate during the game as he went yard ball, had a double and 2 RBI's.  Cameron Leach helped his own cause by knocking in 2 runs on his only hit of the day.

(Game Recap 3/27) Plainsmen vs. Otero College = Loss 5-2

Breakdown: NJC held the lead going into the top of the 7th.  However, 4 Otero runs in the 7th put a stop to the Plainsmen's chances at winning the game as they were unable to answer.  NJC struggled to get many hits as they only had 6 in the entire game.  Cameron Leach did manage to get 1 RBI on his only hit of the game, along with a stolen base.  Stevins Spurgeon took the start, had pretty good luck agasinst the 19 batters he faced, but was unable to walk away with a win.

(Game Recap 3/27) Plainsmen vs. Otero College = Won 8-0

Breakdown: NJC wanted to get revenge after failing to sweep the series against Otero.  A big 4th inning from the Plainsmen helped boost the team morale and never looked back as they took the win.  Pitcher Ryan Jones took his 1st win on the season as he faced 18 batters, struck out 4 and had no earned runs.  Third baseman David Draayers went yard ball for an RBI.  Trey Adams went perfect from the plate, recording a double and an RBI.  Northeastern had 4 strikeouts to their 8 hits.
