NJC Loses 3 of 5 Against Western Nebraska
Northeastern baseball just played conference rival Western Nebraska Community College in 5 consecutive games. Three games were played in Scottsbluff last weekend and then the Cougars came to town on Wednesday for a double-header. NJC won the first and last game in the series. The Plainsmen currently sit in 4th place in the region with 7 games remaining in the regular season. This weekend Northeastern travels to McCook for a 3-game series against the Indians. Saturday's (April 23rd) double-header has game times of 1pm & 3:30pm and Sunday's (April 24th) game is at 1pm. McCook is sitting in 5th place, so NJC needs to win this series to avoid swaping places with the Indians in the standings.

(Game Recap 4/15) Plainsmen vs. Western Nebraska CC = Win 5-3
Breakdown: 2-runs in the top of the 8th pushed NJC past the Courgars for the win. Sage Ferguson took the start and pitched well, but didn't get the win. Ferguson struck out 10 of the 27 batters he faced and only gave up 1 earned run. Brian Walters ended up with his 3rd win on the season. Mason Sauter went 3-4 from the plate that included 2 doubles and an RBI. Catcher Guillermo Guzman went 2-2 from the plate knocking in 3 RBI's for NJC. The Cougars left 30 runners on base.
(Game Recap 4/15) Plainsmen vs. Western Nebraska CC = Loss 10-2
Breakdown: Game was tied through the 4th inning until WNCC put up 8-runs in 3 innings. NJC never recovered and the Cougars went on to win the game easily. Cougars out-hit the Plainsmen 15-5 in the contest. Jackson Trout went 1-3 at the plate and knocked in 1 RBI. Stevins Spurgeon pitched for 5 innings, struck out 2 and had only 1 earned run, but ended up taking his 5th loss of the season. NJC as a team struck out 11 times to WNCC's 3.
(Game Recap 4/16) Plainsmen vs. Western Nebraska CC = Loss 14-3
Breakdown: Game was tied going into the 3rd inning. Then in the 4th, Cougars decided they had enough, and went on a 13-2 scoring run through the 8th inning that buried the Plainsmen. Trey Adams had a solo shot on his only hit in the game. Caleb Rozier went 1-3 from the plate knocking in a NJC run. Northeastern used 4 different pitchers in the loss, but Ryan Jones pitched the majority of the game facing 18 batters, striking out 4 and giving up 4 earned runs. NJC struck out 12 times to the Cougars 8.

(Game Recap 4/20) Plainsmen vs. Western Nebraska CC = Loss 7-5
Breakdown: Northeastern found themselves down 7-2 and scored 3 runs in the 7th inning, which was too late as they went on to lose their 3rd straight game. Zach Boone had 1 at-bat during the game and smacked a 3-run shot to give NJC a boost. Shortstop Trey Adams went 2-3 from the plate in the loss. Pitcher Clay Sanger ended up taking the loss, his 3rd on the year, giving him a 3-3 record overall this season. Cougars out-hit the Plainsmen 12-7.
(Game Recap 4/20) Plainsmen vs. Western Nebraska CC = Win 8-6
Breakdown: A 6-run 6th inning for the Plainsmen rallied them from behind to win the last game of the series. Caleb Rozier smashed a grand slam for his only hit of the game. Catcher Nick Baba went 1-2 at the plate and knocked in 2-runs. Mason Sauter went 2-3 at the plate and added a RBI as well in the win. Chase McCreath ended up taking the win for the Plainsmen and Stevins Spurgeon collected a save in the victory.
