Plainsmen Cannot Tame Mavericks

Plainsmen Cannot Tame Mavericks

In a non-conference matchup on the campus of Northeastern, the Plainsmen took on the Northwest Kansas Tech Mavericks.  The Plainsmen were looking to get back on the right side of the scoreboard after a few tough losses in the past few weeks.  The Plainsmen have been working out the kinks in aims to get their team back rolling again.  The Mavs would be a tough team to beat if they weren't firing on all cylinders, but if they were, they would put themselves in a good position to beat them.

The first half of the game, the Mavs came out with a lot of energy, but the cool, calm, collective Plainsmen did not let that phase them and kept matching points for points.  The half would never have one team would had a clear-cut lead, and at the buzzer, the Plainsmen would trail 33-29.  In the second half, the Plainsmen would find themselves in a little hole in the 13th minute trailing 51-29.  Knowing that they have been down a lot worse with less time, they started to chip away at lead.  As time would tick, the Plainsmen brought the game within eight at the 5:22 mark.  With plenty of time remaining, they kept trying what made them successful in that run, but the Mavs were able to figure out how to stop it and kept the Plainsmen at bay.

The Plainsmen would eventually drop to the Mavs 77-67 despite their mid half run.  Scoring leaders for the Plainsmen would be Marcus Burwell coming off the bench to have 18 points, followed by Ron Hall with 14 points and eight rebounds.

The Plainsmen will host Air Force Prep on Friday January 19 as they try to get a notch in the W column.
