Plainsmen Battle Against Tough Eagle Team

Plainsmen Battle Against Tough Eagle Team

Nov. 6, 2018, Sterling, Colo. – The Northeastern basketball team played against the Laramie County Eagles on Tuesday night, an opponent who proved be the Plainsmen's toughest game to date. The Eagles came into the game with a 1-1 record, with both of their opponents being two solid teams. The Plainsmen came into the game with a 2-0 record and looked to make it 3-0.

From the tip, Northeastern established dominance by jumping out to a 10-point lead. They kept that lead with Ryan Bagley and Mohammad Diallo leading the way. As the half progressed, the Plainsmen cooled off and the Eagles took advantage and made a comeback. The Plainsmen struggled to get the lid off the rim and Laramie County brought it to within five points, and the halftime score read 31-26.

In the second half, the Plainsmen started out hot once again, and in the first ten minutes extended their lead to make it 50-36. However, the Eagles waited it out for the Plainsmen to cool off again. That plan worked to an extent because the Plainsmen's offense did slow down a little, but their defense picked up and didn't allow the Eagles to gain any ground. As the game progressed, players from both teams got into some trouble, which led to free throws after double bonus was met. These free throws allowed the Eagles to get a few points back, but not enough to make the Plainsmen panic. The boys battled through the fouls and free throws, and defeated the Eagles 71-55.

The men are back in action on Friday and Saturday, Nov. 9 and 10 against Little Priest Tribal College.
