Buckets Come Easy in Plainsmen Victory

Dec. 11, 2018, Sterling, Colo. — The Plainsmen basketball team hosted the Northwest Kansas Technical College JV team before heading into the winter break. After a delayed start, the Plainsmen took no time to get things started. Northeastern jumped out to an early 9-3 lead before the Mavericks took a timeout to figure out their defense. After the timeout, the Plainsmen began their run with two monster dunks by Relando Rodgers. Those plays ignited the Plainsmen and allowed them to take the 37-15 lead. At the halfway mark of the first half, Northeastern began to cool off and allowed the Mavericks to cut into the Plainsmen lead. With less than five minutes remaining in the half, the Mavericks called another timeout with Northeastern still leading 45-27. In the final minutes of the game, the men were able to roll off a few points before halftime and keep the 57-36 lead.

During halftime, Coach Trenkle and Coach Moton emphasized staying true to their game and playing Plainsmen basketball. Right out of the gate it was apparent what they were doing because Northeastern ran their plays in their entirety until they found a wide-open shot. The game plan allowed the men to extend their lead to 25 as the scoreboard read 70-45. As the game continued, the Plainsmen continued to execute and dominated the second half. The game ended with Northeastern on top 111-66.

The Plainsmen head into break with an 8-7 record and will start things back up on Jan. 10 as they host Sheridan College.
