Plainsmen Get Huge Win Over Knights

Feb. 6, 2019, Sterling, Colo. — A road win was just what the Plainsmen needed. They had many games recently where their opponents made a run at the end of the game to defeat them. End of game losses were getting old for the Plainsmen so they needed to get things switched up. Going on the road and handing the North Platte Knights their first home loss since Feb. of last year was exactly what the men needed.

Last time these teams met, the Knights came out victors after Northeastern missed a shot at the buzzer. Although North Platte has been hot lately, the Plainsmen knew how to defeat the Knights on their home court. The game started in an unlikely way as each team were in the bonus after five minutes of play. North Platte attacked the Plainsmen each possession and were able to get to the line. Northeastern went into halftime with the 34-31 lead despite the Knights going 17/21 from the free throw line.

The second half was much like the first as both teams reached the bonus early in the game. The Plainsmen kept playing their game by focusing on their mid-range and post-game in the second half. The men only shot four three-pointers in the half compared to 12 in the first. That game plan carried the Plainsmen to the 80-70 victory over the Knights, which help them in Region IX standings.

The Plainsmen will be on the road on Friday, Feb. 8 as they play the McCook Indians.
