Top Finishes Help Men Place Third

The Plainsmen men's golf team has progressively been working their way up the team rankings this spring season.  They have had individuals creeping up the leaderboards, which have helped them finish better as a team.  The first day, NJC would have two players finish in the top 10, which could mean big things come day two.  Brett Mattson would finish with a 73 and Bradon Baxter would finish the first round shooting a 79.  With those scores, they would both have a chance at improving them, giving them a shot to gain a lot of points for the team.  After the end of the second day, Mattson would shoot another 73, and Baxter would shoot a 76.  That score for Mattson would put him in a second place finish and Baxter would end in twelfth.  Other players would shoot well too as Logan Wood would finish in fifteenth.  Overall, the scores put up by individuals would put them in a tie for third place as a team.  The third place finish would tie their other third place finishes and they look to break that threshold in their next tournament in McCook.

The Plainswomen golf team has been phenomenal this year.  The women have been able to shoot consistent scores time and time again to give them top finishes.  Caitlyn Jacobs would finish again in second place, Jessica Salazar in fifth, Baily Kreider in sixth, and Rachel Rael in seventh.  The first day, Jacobs would only be five shots off the leader, and could more than easily make up those shots in day two.  Same with Salazar, although putting up a higher scoring, getting a read on the greens could help them make more shots.  With the second day coming to an end, most everyone on the team would post a lower score than day one, which would help the girls rally rack up the points in the team score.  The Plainswomen's first place finish would guarantee a bid for them to participate in the National Tournament.
