Northeastern Golf Competes in Lamar

Mar. 25, 2019, Sterling, Colo. — After a long winter season of indoor hitting and simulator training, the Northeastern golf teams took to the course for a two day tournament in Lamar, Colo. Both teams had a good fall season, but they needed to do well as a team and as individuals in the spring to give them a chance to make the national tournament. 

After the first day, Brett Mattson led the men's team with a 75 putting him in sixth place.  Next was Logan Wood as he finished with an 82. Codey Smith finished with an 84, Tate Higgins an 89, Tanner Wilmes a 90, and Sam Ostravich a 95. The second day was cut short due to inclement weather, so only nine holes were played in the tournament. At the end of it all, Mattson finished fifth with a 110, Wood finished 18th with a 122, Smith at 22nd with a 127, Higgins at 23rd with a 129, Ostravich at 26th with a 135, and Wilmes at 29th with a 139. Overall the men shot a 485 with placed them at third overall in the tournament. 

The women's team had a great outing on both days of play. Baily Kreider led the Plainswomen after round one to sit in fourth by shooting a 100. Jessica Salazar shot a 103, Angela Cristelli a 102, and Megan Young a 140. The second day had some changes amongst the team as some players became acclimated to the course. Salazar finished in fourth with a 152, Kreider in fifth with a 153, Cristelli in sixth with a 157 and Young in 12th with a 208. Overall the Plainswomen finished in second place. 

The teams will travel to McCook, Neb. to play in the McCook Tournament at Heritage Hills Golf Course on Thursday, Mar. 28 and 29.
