Plainsmen Take 3rd At Lamar Tournament

Lamar, Colo...

The Plainsmen/Plainswomen golf teams traveled to Lamar last Thursday and Friday to compete in their second to last tournament match for the Fall golf season.  After having the week off, NJC was ready to get back into the action and see how well they could perform at a course they have previously performed very well on.  Northeastern came out and had a better first day of the tournament than they did on the second.  Overall, the men scored a 291 and a 296 for a two day total of 587, which ended up being 16 strokes behind 2nd place and 28 strokes behind 1st place Eastern Wyoming.  NJC's men's team struggled to find consistency in their golf games as for the first time this Fall season, not one player finished in the top ten for the event.  However, the Plainsmen did see Matt Campbell leading the way with a 146 (72-74) two day total while Jackson Rottschafer (69-78), Trey Kuntz (74-73) and Chase Hume (76-71) all came in with two day totals of 147.

The Plainswomen golf team again was not able to field a complete team for the Lamar tournament.  Leading the way for the women was freshman Annabelle Flores who shot a two day total of 201 (100-101), good enough to finish in 5th place.  Sophmore Kylee Monaco came in with a two day total of 221 (118-103), good enough to finish in 8th place.

NJC heads to La Junta on Thursday, October 7th and Friday, October 8th to compete in their final tournament of the Fall season.  The golf teams will also have an exhibition match against York College on Saturday, October 23rd at Sky Ranch here in Sterling.
