Early Lead Cannot Be Held

Early Lead Cannot Be Held

The Plainsmen traveled to Scottsbluff, NE to play against Region IX conference opponent Western Nebraska Cougars.  The men needed to get this conference win as they had already dropped their first two conference games last week.  Getting this win could help them move up in the standings in conference, so a lot was on the line.

As the game started, the Plainsmen knew how to attack the Cougar defense, it would just be a matter if they could execute and finish.  With that mindset being the number one priority along with strong defense, the men were ready to attack.

With the game in its infancy, sophomore Paul Liagre scored 25 seconds in to give the Plainsmen the 1-0 lead.  The men knew that this is not how the game will be throughout the entire match, so they had to take it with a grain of salt.  In the 15 minute mark of play, the Cougars tied it up one a piece.  Knowing that they needed to control the momentum of the match, De Sorde Lopes was able to give Northeastern the 2-1 before going into the half.

In the second half, the men knew they needed to play another solid match in order to come with the victory, and that they needed to expect a different Cougar team to come out.

In the second half, although they had many chances to score, but were unable to put it in the back of the goal.  It was in the 55 minute when WNCC scored the tying goal.  The men knew they needed to put it together to get the win, it was again a matter of sticking to their original game plan.

With a few minutes to play, it was the Cougars who would get the final goal and give them the win 3-2 over the Plainsmen.

The Plainsmen will be back in action as they travel to Western Wyoming on Saturday September 16.
