Three Early Goals Withstand The Test Of Time

Three Early Goals Withstand The Test Of Time

The Plainsmen soccer team played host to the Western Nebraska Cougars in a Region IX Conference matchup.  Last time these teams played, the Plainsmen had the lead , but the Cougars were able to score late to give them the win.  Not wanting to lose at home to a team that they should've beat the last time, the men were holding nothing back.

In the first three minutes, Brodie Hayes was able to break the ice for the Plainsmen to give them the 1-0 lead.  Only two minutes after the ice breaker, in the 5th minute of the game, De Sorde Lopes was credited with a goal to put the Plainsmen ahead 2-0.  The way the first goals came, seemed to be déjà vu to the last game they played against each other.  The men had a great lead going into half but wanted to make sure that they got a lead because they knew that the Cougars could make a run.

In the second half, the Plainsmen would get a gift In the 55th minute as Brodie Hayes would get his second goal of the game to make it a 3-0 game.  As predicted, the Cougars would score from a perfectly placed cross in the 63th minute to make it a 3-1 game.  Just as fast as they scored their first one, the Cougars would score once more in the 65th minute to bring it to a one point game with a 3-2 score.  Both of the Cougars goals caught the Plainsmen by surprise and they knew that there was time left to kill.  The Plainsmen were able to play a solid 25 minutes to end the game giving them the 3-2 victory.

The Plainsmen will have a busy weekend by first hosting Central on Saturday October 14 and then Gillette on Sunday October 15.
