Plainsmen Victorious on Sophomore Day

Plainsmen Victorious on Sophomore Day

In the final regular season game for the Plainsmen, the men would host the Gillette College Pronghorns.  The men had already sealed their fate for playoffs in the game the day before, so this game was meant to freshen up on anything that needed to be worked on while competing.  The Plainsmen still wanted to win, as it would still affect their record, so they would not take it lightly.

As the game began, Northeastern knew that they needed to play a solid 90 minutes if they wanted to walk away with a victory.  In the 20th minute, it would be Paul Liagre who would break the ice as Jean Carre would get the assist.  No more than a minute later, Paul Liagre would get his second of the game with Ryan Maulsby getting the "A" on the stat sheet.  Towards the end of the first half, a penalty during a Pronghorn attack would lead to a penalty kick.

As the Pronghorns lined up for the kick, one could see in Francisco Lopez's eye that he knew where he was going.  With the ball being kicked and the ball traveling through the air, Lopez dived to his right, directly in line with the flight path of the ball.  As the ball came closer to his hand blocking it, the ball kissed off his hand and dribbled into the net.  The PK was successful for Gillette and would bring the score to 2-1.

At halftime, the Plainsmen knew they had a lot left in the tank, which would show with the Plainsmen scoring more.

In the 50th minute, Paul Liagre would get his third goal of the game with Jean Carre getting his second apple.  That goal would give Liagre a "hat trick" for the game which would be his first of the year.  The Plainsmen were on fire and in the 71st minute, Robbert Daemen would get a goal of his own with Jean Carre getting an assist "hat trick" for the game, making it a 4-1 game.  But the Pronghorns were on the hunt late in the second, and an own goal by the Plainsmen would make it a 4-2 game.  The Plainsmen would go on to win, and finish the regular season on a positive note.
