Clean Sheet Versus Pronghorns

Sept. 17, 2018, Sterling, Colo. — The Plainsmen soccer team has been on a roll lately by defeating seven of their last nine opponents. They have been able to string together a solid 90 minutes of play and have kept striving towards the Region IX Championship. Their latest matchup was against the Gillette College Pronghorns, played here in Sterling.

The Plainsmen got hot right away by scoring back to back-to-back goals in a matter of three minutes. Paul Caliari scored the first goal in the 15th minute, assisted by Dani van Steijn and Jean Carre. Jean Carre added another goal as Zak Khouiel and Matis Castillon. To follow him, Dani van Steijn scored in the 18th minute. Finishing up the half, Ben Renehan scored in the 45th minute as Maurice Von Winkler gave him the assist.

The second half the Plainsmen were on cruise control as they had the 4-0 lead. They just needed to play solid defense so they could get out of there with the win. Not slacking on offense was still part of their game plan and in the 58th minute, Quentin Hornung scored from the passes of Carlos Morales and Matis Castillon. Lastly, Maurice Von Winkler got on the scoresheet for a goal in the 89th minute by scoring the sixth and final point as Jason McCormick and Lukas Lougon received the assists.

The Plainsmen will have a few days off before they host the Central Community College Raiders on Sept. 21 at 1 p.m.
