Game Winner as Time Expires

Oct. 1, 2018, Sterling, Colo. – Region IX conference games can only mean one thing: intensity. The Plainsmen hosted two conference opponents, the Otero Rattlers and the Trinidad State Trojans, and both games were nothing short of exciting for both players and fans. 

The first game against the Rattlers came down to the final 10 seconds of the game to determine a winner. Before any of that excitement, one Plainsmen player was busy setting records. The first goal of the game went to Jean Carre, who scored on a penalty kick to give him the single-season scoring record. The Rattlers eventually tied the game up, which turned up the heat on the Plainsmen. As the clock ticked away in the second half, with less than 30 seconds left, the Plainsmen scored as Quentin Hornung buried the game winner with only 10 seconds remaining. Celebration ensued for the Plainsmen victory. That win was a solid victory for Northeastern and they looked to carry it over to the Trojans. 

Day two was the final home game for the Plainsmen which meant it was sophomore day. All the sophomores were recognized for their dedication to the program and helping put Northeastern on the map. With the recognition finished, the game started and the men came out to play. 

As the ball was kicked into play, the fans could tell they were in for another solid match. Maurice Von Winkler got the ice breaker with Quentin Hornung getting the assist in the 24^th minute. A few minutes before halftime, Dani Van Steijn made it a two-point game in the 38^th minute with Paul Caliari recording the assist. Not to be outdone, the Trojans scored in the 41^st minute to bring it back to a one-point game with the scoreboard reading 2-1. The rest of the game, the men kept attacking but did not find success until the 75^th minute when Quentin Hornung scored an unassisted goal for the final goal of the game. The Plainsmen win in a 3-1 fashion with Luc Denisselle getting the victory between the poles. 

The men will be on the road the rest of the regular season as they look to get a berth in the Region IX playoffs.
