First-Half Goals Lead To Plainsmen Victory

Oct. 8, 2018, Sterling, Colo. – The Plainsmen soccer team has been hot lately and has no desire to stop now. In the latest poll, which comes out every Tuesday, the Plainsmen were ranked number 15 in the nation. The next poll will come out on Oct. 9, on which the Plainsmen have a good opportunity for moving up a few more spots. Their most recent opponent, the Western Wyoming Mustangs, proved to be yet another competitor that tested the Plainsmen's resiliency.

The Plainsmen left nothing to chance and wanted to get things started right away, and scored the first goal in the first five minutes. Maurice Von Winkler got the icebreaker to give Northeastern the 1-0 lead. As the game progressed, the Mustangs tried to get the equalizer. That time came in the 39th minute to make it a 1-1 game. Again, not wanting to let the Mustangs get any advantage, the Plainsmen struck again as Juan Macias scored in the 43rd minute to take it to a 2-1 game. The half ended, and the game remained a 2-1 game with Northeastern leading.

In the second, both teams tried their hand at scoring, but neither team could capitalize. The game ended with the Plainsmen being victorious 2-1. Northeastern looks to continue their success as they travel to Scottsbluff, Neb. to play against the Western Nebraska Cougars.
