Men's Soccer Splits Games on the Road

Scottsbluff, Neb...

The Plainsmen took to the field after a delayed start due to weather against Western Nebraska, much like the weather, it was not a good result for the Plainsmen.  Northeastern had a solid performance and dominated much of the game, but couldn't find a breakthrough in the first half. NJC created much better chances and had plenty of shots and shots on goal, but couldn't find that quality needed to put the ball in the net. Against the run of play, Western Nebraska opened the scoring in the 30th minute after a nice play down the right hand side and finding their number 9 in the box who is a strong finisher. It remainder 1-0 for the rest of the first half.

Second half came and NJC came out strong and again dominated most of the play. They were rewarded with a goal in the 54th minute after Martin Launay played a ball out to Clement Scaccia who beat a man and found the far corner to level the game. Again, NJC created better chances after hitting the woodwork and some great saves from WNCC goalkeeper.  The game remained level until the 79th minute where WNCC was awarded a pk which they converted to make it 2-1 in their favor. NJC piled all the pressure on late, but couldn't grab the equalizing goal, so they fell to WNCC with a score of 2-1.

Northeastern plays again tomorrow against Laramie County CC in a strong matchup for more Region 9 play.

Cheyenne, Wyo...

The day after a disappointing result, your Plainsmen bounce back to winning ways with a solid 2-0 win over a good Laramie side.  Despite not starting the game super strong, the Plainsmen held strong in defense after some nice attacking play from Laramie. Laramie weren't able to create good opportunities on goal despite their threat in midfield and attack. As the first half was passing, the Plainsmen grew into the game and finished the first half maybe the stronger side. The first half finished 0-0 with not many opportunities from either side.

NJC came out very strong the second half and took over the game. Still remaining strong at the back, but being able to create more chances and shots. They were compensated with their attacking efforts with a great team goal coming in the 52nd minute as Elias Khodri picked up the ball in the midfield and played a ball out wide to Tokiya Monno.  After some great dribbling and a good cross into the box, Hugo Rego was there to score a header and pick up his second on the season.

Coach James Westfield

"This was an important win for us, not just for the three points but also to bounce back quickly from Western Nebraska. Yesterday was disappointing, but today was the perfect response from the guys. We didn't start the game quite to the tempo and intensity we like, however, the second half was exactly how we want to be. It was the perfect team performance and we will carry that performance and confidence into our remaining games of the season."
