Northeastern Falls To Cougars On The Road

Northeastern Falls To Cougars On The Road

Coming off a long break can pose some problems for the teams.  Having regular games help teams stay fresh and keep players game ready.  The Plainswomen's last game was a little over a week ago because of spring break, which could have played a role in some of Northeastern's struggles.

The first game of the two game series started with the Plainswomen falling behind to the Cougars 6-0 as WNCC would score four in the first and two in the second innings.  Northeastern would be able to get a point back, but the Cougars would score three more in the fourth to take a 9-1 lead.  In the sixth inning, NJC would be able to get on a roll and cut their deficit to within three to make it a 9-6 game.  That run would not be enough however and the Plainswomen would eventually fall 11-6.

The women knew they were capable of winning against the Cougars as they had beat them twice at home, so they needed to buckle down and play Plainswomen softball.  Game two was their chance to play well and come away with the split, but an early lead by WNCC made the Plainswomen have to battle the entire way.  In the first inning, WNCC would score two runs to take the 2-0 lead.  The Plainswomen would keep trying to get girls on and around to score, but were unsuccessful.  In the fifth, the Cougars would add two additional runs to make it a 4-0 game.  Again, Northeastern would try to get their bats going, but batted balls could not seem to find any gaps in the Cougar defense.  The game's last point would come by Western Nebraska as they would get one more in the sixth to make it the final score of 5-0.

The Plainswomen look to bounce back as they head back to Sterling to host the Southeast CC Storm at home on March 22.
