Series Sweep With Storm

Series Sweep With Storm

Coming off two tough games in Scottsbluff, the Plainswomen were looking to get a home sweep against the Southeast CC Storm.  The Storm are capable of sneaking out a few runs, so Northeastern knew they could not give them any fuel to light their fire.  With that staying in the back of their mind, the first pitch would be thrown.

The first inning of the first game would start with the Storm taking a small lead as they would knock in one run.  The Plainswomen would have their chance at bat, but could not get the sticks rolling.  The second inning would go scoreless for both teams, and in the third, the Storm would get two additional runs to make it a 3-0 game.  After having two innings to get a feel for the pitcher, NJC would be able to time her up and score four runs to take the 4-3 lead.  The lead would change hands in the following inning as SCC would score another two making it a 5-4 game.  Once again, the Plainswomen would stay cool, calm, and collective at bat and would add another four runs to take the lead again at 8-5.  From there it would be all Plainswomen.  The bottom of the fifth would be their time, as they would knock in five runs to give them the 13-5 win.

The second game would prove to be the best battle between the teams.  The game would start again with the Storm taking an early lead by knocking in two runs.  In the following inning, SCC would add another before the Plainswomen would be able to get their runs in, but still trail 3-2.  The fourth was another inning where Southeast would get a run without NJC having an answer.  In the fifth, with Northeastern trailing 4-2, the Storm would add yet another, and then Northeastern would be able to answer it with a run of their own.  With the Plainswomen by two, they needed to get on a roll.  Annaliese Cordova would get things started for the ladies by getting on base.  To follow her up, Katy Ridener would advance her while getting on base as well.  The other Swat Sister, Gracie Cordova, would then hit a gap shot, scoring two runs, and making it to third.  With a runner in prime scoring position, they had a chance to take the lead.  The next few batters would make contact with the ball, but did not have enough English to get past the infield defense.  The seventh inning would be a scoreless one for both teams, which would send it into extra innings.  Extra innings in college means that the last out from the previous inning starts on second, then the batter takes the plate.  The Storm would be able to get two runs in to make it a 7-5 game.  The Plainswomen would also get to start a runner at second, and would too take advantage and would not only score her, but two other runners which would result in the Plainswomen victory.

The Plainswomen team will head to Columbus to play Central CC on Saturday March 24.
