Rallies Lead To Sweep Over Rattlers

Rallies Lead To Sweep Over Rattlers

The Plainswomen have done fairly well at protecting their home field so far this season.  In their 18 home games, they have won 13 of them.  Protecting your home field is a "must do" if the Plainswomen want to seed themselves high for the post-season tournament.  Being able to win at home, and to try to at least get a split on the road is ultimately what the Plainswomen need.  Additionally, if they do happen to lose one at home, they need to make it up by getting an extra one on the road.  With all those factors coming into play, the ladies knew what they had to do; sweep the Rattlers.

The first game would start slow as the Rattlers would score first with a few liners, which would score one run.  The Plainswomen would be able to follow up with a few runs of their own to take the lead.  They would leave a few runners in scoring position, which they would hope to not come back and haunt them.  As the game would progress, the teams would battle.  But the Plainswomen would get hot and be able to take the final lead, which would result in them winning 15-7.

With one down, and one to go, the women knew that this win was big for them.  When these teams met down in La Junta, the Rattlers were able to barely edge out the Plainswomen by one in three of the four games.  Northeastern did not want to leave any room for doubt and give them a chance, so if they were able to score, they would.  With that mentality leading them into the game, the Plainswomen would start rolling with the sticks.  Once they started scoring, there was nothing left to do but play defense and hold the Rattlers.  The game would finish with NJC defeating the Rattlers 10-0 in the fifth inning due to the run rule.  Mission complete to protect home field.

The Plainswomen will only have one day off before playing again as they will travel to McCook to play the Indians.
