Softball Splits Series in Lamar

Softball Splits Series in Lamar

Mar. 3, 2019, Sterling, Colo. — The Northeastern Plainswomen traveled to Lamar to play the Lopes for their first Region IX Conference game. The ladies needed to get some road wins to help them in the long run for post season, and these games against the Lopes was a chance for them to do so.

The first game proved to be difficult for the Plainswomen as they struggled to get their bats going in the 11-3 loss. Northeastern only accumulated five runs compared to the Lopes 12. Additionally the ladies committed five errors in the game, which did not help the outcome. Nonetheless, the Plainswomen still had three games left to get things back in their favor.

The second game of the day did not pan out so well for Northeastern either. Lamar took the 1-0 lead in the second before the Plainswomen could tie it 1-1 in the third. That was all Northeastern managed to score for the game as Lamar tacked on eight more before the end of the game and won 9-1.

The second day proved a new day for the Plainswomen as came back and won both getting the split on the series. The first game started will with Northeastern going ahead 8-0 after scoring six in the first and two in the second. The Plainswomen let down their guard and allowed Lamar to tie it up 8-8 at the end of the fifth. Northeastern scored the last run of the game in the top of the sixth to seal the 9-8 victory.

The fourth and final game was another close one as the Plainswomen were scoreless until the last inning. Lamar had the 4-0 lead all the way until the top of seven when Northeastern finally got their bats rolling by tacking on six runs. The Lopes were able to get one back, but it was too little too late as the Plainswomen went on to win 6-5.

Northeastern's schedule has changed slightly after less than ideal softball weather struck the plains in northeast Colorado. Their games against Williston State will still be played, but the location has been moved to Pueblo, Colo.
