Softball Struggles at the Plate

Mar. 19, 2019, Sterling, Colo. — The Northeastern softball team hosted the Western Nebraska Cougars in a Region IX divisional game. The Plainswomen started the season hot by defeating good teams and looked to keep that fire going into these games. The only thing that has not been in their favor lately has been the bad weather and a long break between games.

The first game started rough for the Plainswomen as the Cougars timed up Northeastern's pitching and rolled off a few runs. The Plainswomen tried to get on the board, but could only get their one run in the bottom of the fifth. Their deficit was too much and Northeastern fell in game one 11-1.

In the first game, the Plainswomen seemed to be sluggish and not on their game. It was not like them to not get any runs on the board. The second game was much better in that aspect as they jumped out to an early 4-0 lead after the first inning. As the game progressed however, the Plainswomen's bats became cold and defense grew holes. The Cougars started to roll and took a significant lead that eventually led to a Northeastern loss, 16-4.

Northeastern will be at home again beginning on Saturday, Mar. 23 as they host the Otero Rattlers for another divisional matchup.
