Road Wins Accumulate for Plainswomen

Mar. 23, 2019, Sterling, Colo. — In a non-regional game, the Plainswomen softball team traveled to Colby, Kan. to play against the Colby Community College Trojans. Northeastern recently came off a two game loss to the Western Nebraska Cougars, so they needed a pair of wins to help them get momentum before playing Otero.

In the first game, Northeastern scored first by putting up three runs in the third. Colby gained one back in the fourth, but the Plainswomen regained that run back in the six and held the 4-1 lead. In the bottom of the sixth, the Trojans managed to cut into Northeastern's lead by two and make it a 4-3 game. Without batting an eye, the Plainswomen scored two runs in the top of seven and held them defensively to win 6-3.

In the second game, Northeastern's bats got hot right away by putting up five runs in the first to the Trojans two. It remained a 5-2 game until the third when the Plainswomen batted around the order and scored seven runs. The ladies finished the game with an additional two runs in the fifth to win 14-2 over Colby.

On the mound, Erin Hersey earned the win in the first game while Makaila Chadwick earned it in the second. Offensively, Gracie Cordova had five RBI's and Danielle Woosley had three.
