2022 Softball Season Is Underway

Henderson, Nev...

The Plainswomen softball team started the season off a bit rocky as they went 1-4 in the CSN Kickoff Classic in Nevada last week.  This tournament does feature some strong teams so it's good to play those teams in order to get a taste of stiff competition.  The girls are excited about this season and look forward to bouncing back in the right direction as their season just gets underway.  Next up for NJC softball is Colby Community College at Mason Field in Sterling on Saturday, February 12th.  The matchup will feature a double header game with first pitches coming at 11am and 1pm.

(Game Recap 1/28) Plainswomen vs. Central Arizona College = Loss 4-2

Breakdown: NJC battled hard in their season opener as they found themselves down early, came back to tie, but couldn't stop a couple more runs.  Sara Lynch pitched against 26 batters allowing 2 earned runs and struck out 4.  Cora Aguirres had two runs batted in that included a home run.  Northeastern as a team struck out 11 times and only managed 3 hits.

(Game Recap 1/28) Plainswomen vs. Colorado Northwestern CC = Won 9-6

Breakdown: Northeastern got to play against a Colorado team out of state that they will only face once this year.  NJC was able to hold off Colorado Northwestern because of big 2nd and 6th inning scoring, which totaled 6 of the 9 runs.  Avery Fox pitched 5 innings recording 4 strikeouts and 3 earned runs.  Rylyn Nelson had a home run as well as 2 runs batted in.  Katey Kelly and Eden McNally both also had 2 runs batted in.  Desiree Perales went 3-4 at the plate.  The Plainswomen won despite being out hit 15-12.

(Game Recap 1/29) Plainswomen vs. College of Southern Idaho = Loss 10-1

(Game Recap 1/29) Plainswomen vs. Eastern Arizona College = Loss 10-2

(Game Recap 1/29) Plainswomen vs. Utah State Eastern College = Loss 13-10

Breakdown: NJC was able to get the bats going early as they took the lead 5-2 after the 1st two innings.  3rd inning told a different story as Utah State was able to score 4 unanswered runs flipping the script.  Both teams each scored 5 runs in the 5th, but that was not enough to overcome the deficit for the Plainswomen.  Addy Deal led the way for NJC knocking in 3 runs while Cora Aguirres and Brooke Rule each knocked in 2.  Sara Lynch again got the call for the start on the mound.  She pitched 4.1 innings where she faced 29 batters, struck out 1 and had 8 earned runs.  Plainswomen again struggled to keep up with their opponents as they were out hit 18-8.
