Northeastern Wins 5 of Last 6 Games

The Plainswomen softball team had another streak of playing Kansas softball teams during the 1st couple weeks of the season.  NJC played Northwest Kansas Technical College 4 times in 3 days walking away with wins in each of those contests.  Northeastern also played Colby Community College in a double-header this past Saturday on the road in which they split the games winning the 1st and losing the 2nd.  Next up the Plainswomen travel to Kansas once again on Sunday, February 27th to play Dodge City Community College who is currently on a 8 game losing streak.  First pitches are scheduled for 12pm and 2pm.

Game Recap 2/18) Plainswomen vs. Northwest Kansas Tech = Won 12-2

Breakdown: Game called in 5 innings.  Northeastern had a monster 5th inning scoring 8.  Sara Lynch gets the start again for NJC as she pitched 4 innings giving up 4 hits, no earned runs and striking out 8.  The bats were hot for Northeastern as they had 4 players with at least 2 RBI's.  Rylyn Nelson went 3-4 from the plate with a double, a home run and 3 RBI's.  Katey Kelly had a big bat once again going 3-4 with a home run and 2 RBI's.  NJC had 15 hits to NWKT's 7.

(Game Recap 2/18) Plainswomen vs. Northwest Kansas Tech = Won 13-1

Breakdown: Game called in 5 innings.  A huge 3rd inning helped NJC take a 12-1 lead after 3 innings.  NJC bats stayed hot as they recorded 18 hits in their double-header.  Avery Fox took the mound for the Plainswomen as she was able to pitch 3 solid innings giving up 3 hits and 1 earned run.  6 differnt Northeastern players recorded at least 2 hits or more and 4 girls homered in the game.  Desiree Perales was 2-3 from the plate with a home run and 3 RBI's.  Rylyn Nelson double and homered again.  NJC recorded 4 doubles, including 1 from Brooke Rule, who also had a stolen base.

(Game Recap 2/19) Plainswomen vs. Colby Community College = Won 4-2

Breakdown: Tight game for the 2 teams.  Colby CC went up 2-0 in the 3rd inning, but it was Northeastern's 4 unanswered runs that put the game away.  NJC was out hit 8-4, but it was the timing of the hits that proved positive for NJC.  Rylyn Nelson continues on her hitting tear as she for the 3rd game in a row had a double and a home run.  Her two RBI's helped seal the victory.  Eden McNally also doubled and had a stolen base in the win.  Sara Lynch took the start and pitched a complete game with 5 strikeouts, 1 earned run and 3 walks.

(Game Recap 2/19) Plainswomen vs. Colby Community College = Loss 8-5

Breakdown: Another tough game for NJC that came up short.  A 4-run 5th innning proved to be to much for Northeastern to recover from as slow and steady didn't win the race.  Colby CC out hit the Plainswomen 9-4 and struck out NJC 6 times.  Addy Deal went 1-3 with a sacrafice fly while Desiree Perales has a base hit RBI.  Avery Fox and Delaney Barrett shared pitching duties and combined for 6 earned runs and 4 strikeouts.  Colby CC had 2 girls hit homeruns in the contest.

(Game Recap 2/20) Plainswomen vs. Northwest Kansas Tech = Won 11-5

Breakdown: NJC took care of business in the 4th inning scoring 8 runs after finding themselves down 3-2.  Northeastern recorded 15 hits in the win.  Avery Fox was able to pitch a complete game as she went 7 innings producing 2 strikeouts while giving up 3 earned runs on 10 hits.  Katey Kelly went big as she was 3-4 from the plate with 2 doubles and 4 RBI's.  Jacqueline Siefken went 2-4 with a double and a RBI.  Eden McNally stole 2 bases, recorded 3 hits and had a RBI in the win.

(Game Recap 2/20) Plainswomen vs. Northwest Kansas Tech = Won 18-3

Breakdown: Game called in 5 innings.  NJC was at home again and flat out was on fire scoring 10 runs in the 1st inning and another 4 big ones in the 4th inning solidifying a big victory.  The Plainswomen scored 18 runs on just 10 hits.  4 Northeastern players had at least 2 RBI's or more.  Shortstop Angelina Quezada had a breakout game going 2-3 from the plate with a homerun and 5 RBI's.  Sterling native Akayla Mahaffey also went big going 2-3 from the plate with 4 RBI's and a walk.  Freshman Michaela Moorehouse played solid going 2-3 with a double and 2 RBI's.  Delaney Barrett took the start for the Plainswomen pitching a complete game giving up 6 hits, 2 earned runs and struck out 3.
