Plainswomen Run Out Of Gas

Plainswomen Run Out Of Gas

In a non-conference game, the Plainswomen hosted the Northwest Kansas Tech Mavericks.  The ladies were hoping to get keep their little hot streak going by defeating the Mav's, but knew it would take an entire 40 minutes of solid play to do so.  The Mav's had height to match up with a few of the Plainswomen players, so it should be a balanced game.

The first quarter went back and forth as expected, but NJC was able to get one extra bucket to lead 17-15.  In the second, the ladies of Northeastern could not match the physical play of the Mavs which slowed down their scoring and allowed the Mavs to take a two point lead at half 28-26.  At half, the Plainswomen needed to match the physicality of the Mavs to keep them from having another slow quarter.

In the second half, the Plainswomen stayed sound on their feet and crashed the offensive boards to help them regain the lead by nine points.  In the final quarter of play, it was visible that the Plainswomen were gassed and were a little sluggish getting up and down the court.  The last minutes of the game, the Mavs were able to get a one-point lead.  With Coach Huss calling a timeout and drawing up a play, the Plainswomen had a chance to get the lead, but was unsuccessful and lost 62-59.

Katie Diakhaby would have another great game by accomplishing a double-double with 26 points and 17 rebounds.

The Plainswomen will have a little break until they play Eastern Wyoming on the road on January 25.
