Plainswomen Win One at Casper Invitational

Nov. 19, 2018, Sterling, Colo. —  In the opening game of the Casper College Invitational, the Plainswomen took on the home team Casper College. Casper was looking for revenge as Northeastern beat them a week before in Sterling. Casper came out fired up, and was able to take a big lead. The Plainswomen had a hard time getting going and had a poor shooting performance in the first half. Casper held the Plainswomen to five out of 29 from the field and managed only three out of 15 from the three-point line. The score at half was 47-16 with Northeastern trailing. It would have been easy for Northeastern to give up, but the Plainswomen came out fighting. Northeastern outscored Casper 40-28 in the second half, but the lead was too big to overcome. Casper went on for the win by the score of 75-56. Taylor Knudson led the way with 14 points and five rebounds. Also scoring for Northeastern were Tashika Burrell with 12, Alyzae Davis with nine, Kirsten Regennitter with six, Alexsandra Ratnikava for six, Marta Rodriguez had six, Kennedi Fulwylie with two, and Callie Dickerson had two.

   On the second day of the invite, Northeastern bounced back with a huge win over Central Wyoming. The Plainswomen cruised to an 87-61 victory. Northeastern came out hot in the first half hitting seven three-pointers and playing aggressive pressure defense. They took a 50-35 lead going into half. Northeastern kept the pace going in the second half by outscoring Central Wyoming 37-26. The Plainswomen had great balanced scoring on the night with six players in double figures. Once again, Taylor Knudson had a huge night, scoring 16 points and grabbing nine rebounds. Marta Rodriguez had 11 points, while Alyzae Davis, Tashika Burrell, Kirsten Regennitter and Kennedi Fulwylie all scored 10 points. Also scoring were Alexsandra Ratnikava with eight, Unique Gainey had six, Callie Dickerson had four, and Haley Weimer with two.

   Northeastern finished the Casper Invite on Saturday playing Snow College. The Plainswomen came out hot in the first half, hitting eight three pointers and applying pressure defense. They led at half time by the score of 45-41. In the second half, Northeastern rab out of gas and Snow took the lead in the fourth. Snow made 14 out of 23 free throws in the second half, and Northeastern was only five out of five. That proved to be the difference and Snow won by the score of 78-68. Alyzae Davis led Northeastern in scoring with 24 points, and Kirsten Regennitter had 15 points and 10 rebounds. Also scoring for Northeastern were Tashika Burrell with 10, Taylor Knudson had eight, Alexsandra Ratnikava with six, and Marta Rodriguez had five. The Plainswomen record now stands at six wins and two losses. 

The Plainswomen will take a week of for break and start games up again on Monday, Nov. 26 as they host Northeast College.
