Plainswomen Down Lopes On The Road

Feb. 14, 2019, Sterling, Colo. — The Northeastern Plainswomen basketball team handled the Lamar Lopes in their most recent game. The ladies traveled down to Lamar, Colo. to play in a Region IX divisional game against the Lopes looking to seal a spot in post-season. When these teams met in Sterling, the Plainswomen won with a score of 81-59. 

The first quarter set the tempo for the game as Northeastern scored 25 points and held the Lopes to five. The Plainswomen held down the defensive end and capitalized offensively. The second quarter was much like the first as the ladies scored another 22 points, but the Lopes scored 13. At halftime, the Plainswomen had the sizable lead 47-18. The second half Northeastern took control and never looked back. The Plainswomen went on to win 87-41 over Lamar. 

Scoring was even amongst the players with Haley Weimer leading the way with 13 points. Asia Turner and Aleksandra Ratnikava both had 12, and Kalyn Serrato had 10 of her own. 

The Plainswomen will travel to play Western Nebraska on Saturday, Feb. 16 before returning home on Monday to host Colorado State University-Club at 7 p.m.
