Northeastern Splits Last Two Games

The Plainswomen basketball team played two games this week, one on the road and one at home.  Earlier in the week, NJC faced Northwest College out of Nebraska while later in the week they played their first of two games for the NJC classic agasint Casper.  Northeastern will battle Concordia JV on Saturday afternoon at 1pm.  Currently the Plainswomen are sitting at 4-2 on the season with 8 more games remaining before the Winter break.

(Game Recap 11/9) Plainswomen vs. Northwest College = Won 68-52

1st Quarter - NJC was able to establish a solid lead in the 1st.  Scored ended 19-11.

2nd Quarter - More of a defensive quarter, low scoring from both teams.  Score at halftime 32-20 in favor of NJC.

3rd Quarter - The Trappers came out with a lot of energy to start second half, outscored the Plainswomen in the 3rd.  Score ended 51-43, NJC with the lead.

4th Quarter - Solid defense and minimal scoring opportunities lead to another quarter in favor of the Plainswomen.  Final score, Northeastern wins 68-52.

Breakdown: NJC was able to control the Northwest offense and keep them off of the boards.  With steady scoring and keeping the turnover ratio in check, the women played a complete game all around.  Nailea Nicholas led the Plainswomen in scoring with 21 and ended the game with a double-double, including 15 rebounds.  While sophomore Filippa Goula followed right behind her with 20 points, the bench added 16 points to the total.  Northeastern controlled the boards out-rebounding the Trappers 37-25.  The Plainswomen shot 48.3% from the field and 81.8% from the free throw line.

(Game Recap 11/11) Plainswomen vs. Casper College = Loss 66-48

1st Quarter - NJC was able to hang with Casper on the scoring side.  Score ended 23-18.

2nd Quarter - Casper capitalized on several offensive rebounds and second chance scoring opportunities.  Score at halftime 41-29 in favor of Casper.

3rd Quarter - Northeastern came out flat in the 3rd as they couldn't find the bottom of the net and had a couple costly turnovers.  Score ended 53-34.

4th Quarter - The last quarter seemed to work out for the Plainswomen as they were able to outscore Casper, but was unable to erase the large deficit.  Final score 66-48 Casper.

Breakdown: NJC had troubles making the best of their scoring opportunities as they missed some easy shots in big moments.  Casper was able to control the boards, especially on the offensive side as they doubled NJC's total.  A very low shooting percentage of 25 from the field held Northeastern back from being able to match points put up by the T-Birds.  Filippa Goula again led the scoring charge for NJC with 14 points and freshman Dalys McGuinnis came off the bench with 13 points.  Sophomore Dalayna Tadolini chipped in 9 points off the bench as well.
