NJC Plays At Pizza Hut Classic In Casper

The Plainswomen headed to Casper, Wyoming this past weekend to compete in the annual Pizza Hut Classic that features different teams from within and outside the region.  During this year's Classic, Northeastern faced Casper College on Thursday, Wyoming All-Stars on Friday and concluded their play with Snow College out of Utah on Saturday.  NJC was able to win 1 of the 3 games, taking their overall season record to 6-4.  During the Thanksgiving break, the ladies will get a week off before playing in front of a home crowd on Tuesday, November 30th against Eastern Wyoming College at 4pm.

(Game Recap 11/18) Plainswomen vs. Casper College = Loss 92-40

1st Quarter - Sluggish start for NJC.  Quarter ended 26-5 Casper.

2nd Quarter - Unable to put up points again.  Halftime score was 51-10 in favor of Casper.

3rd Quarter - Lots of turnovers creating scoring chances for Casper.  NJC down 72-24 to end the 3rd.

4th Quarter - Most scoring chances for Northeastern all game.  Match ended 92-40 Casper.

Breakdown: An all around struggle for the Plainswomen, especially in the turnover category as they had 24 to Casper's 9.  NJC shot only 28.6% from the field and less than 20% from behind the arc.  Casper out rebounded the Plainswomen by 12.  Leading scorer for Northeastern was Dalys McGuinnis.  Sophomore Filippa Goula dished out 6 assists.

(Game Recap 11/19) Plainswomen vs. Wyoming All-Stars = Won 73-67

1st Quarter - Back and forth scoring between the teams.  Score ended 19-16 Wyo All-Stars.

2nd Quarter - Similar quarter for the Plainswomen, needed more tempo.  Halftime score was 38-30 in favor of the All-Stars.

3rd Quarter - Plainswomen defense and energy increased dramatically.  NJC re-captures the lead after 3, up 50-49.

4th Quarter - Close scoring quarter, but NJC prevails.  Final score 73-67 in favor of the Plainswomen.

Breakdown: Overall a much better performance than the night before.  NJC was able to keep their composure throughout the game and came out on top.  Filippa Goula again led the Plainswomen in scoring with 23 points and 8 assists.  Freshman Dalys McGuinnis also recorded her first double-double as a Plainswomen with 18 points and 10 rebounds.  Hannah Chavez had a breakout game as she tallied 18 points coming off of the bench.  NJC forced 16 turnovers to their 3.

(Game Recap 11/20) Plainswomen vs. Snow College = Loss 97-49

1st Quarter - Very tight scoring quarter.  NJC was up 23-21 to end the 1st.

2nd Quarter - Lot's of turnovers that resulted in points for Snow.  NJC outscored 29-8.  Halftime score was 50-31 in favor of Snow College.

3rd Quarter - Northeastern tried to rally back but could not keep up in scoring.  End of quarter was 71-43.

4th Quarter - Plainswomen ran out of gas and played very flat as they were outscored 26-6.  Final score ended 97-49.

Breakdown: NJC had huge momentum to start the game as they started with the lead against a very solid Snow College.  However, a very rough 2nd quarter halted anything positive for the Plainswomen and they never could recover.  Northeastern also had a very poor 4th quarter that led to a blowout.  Only two Plainswomen were able to get into double digits in scoring and the turnover ratio of 30-14 in favor of Snow devastated the NJC offense.
