Northeastern Takes Loss In Third Straight Game

Northeastern women's basketball played two games last week, one game at home against the Otero Rattlers and one game on the road against the McCook Indians.  As NJC continues their conference play throughout February, the Plainswomen find themselves with a 11-12 record, and 4-7 in conference play.  Next up for Northeastern is a pair of road games this week.  On Wednesday they face Otero again for the second time and then head down to southern Colorado on Friday to face the Trojans in Trinidad.  Tip off times for both games are slated for 5pm.

(Game Recap 2/3) Plainswomen vs. Otero College = Loss 59-55

1st Quarter - Even play between both teams.  End of 1st was 10-9 OC.

2nd Quarter - Otero outscored Northeastern by 8.  Halftime score was 30-21 OC.

3rd Quarter - Tight battle, both teams scored 17.  Score at end of 3rd was 47-38 OC.

4th Quarter - NJC attemps comeback in the 4th, wasn't enough for NJC.  Final score was 59-55 OC.

Breakdown: It was another tough 2nd quarter for the Plainswomen as they struggled to get points and were outscored by 8.  Even with a big 4th quarter, it was not enough to overcome the deficit the 2nd quarter created.  Tough loss to take at home.  Filippa Goula led NJC in scoring with 14 points followed up by Bianca Bindzus and Liana Gkompetzisvili who recorded 11.  Nailea Nicholas and Dalys McGuinnis each had 7 points in the contest.

(Game Recap 2/6) Plainswomen vs. McCook CC = Loss 75-59

1st Quarter - MCC barely out scores NJC in the 1st.  End of 1st was 15-13 MCC.

2nd Quarter - Strong 2nd quarter for McCook.  Halftime score was 34-28 MCC.

3rd Quarter - Tight battle, lots of scoring.  Score at end of 3rd was 54-44 MCC.

4th Quarter - Big scoring but NJC couldn't reduce deficit.  Final score was 75-59 MCC.

Breakdown: McCook took the lead early in the game and never looked back.  The Indians ended up with 4 players scoring in double digits for the contest.  Nailea Nicholas dropped 27 points along with 9 rebounds.  Sophomore Filippa Goula followed up with 18 points and 9 assists.  Also helping out in the scoring realm was Liana Gkompetzisvili who scored 8.  NJC shot 43% from the field and 80% from the free throw line.  However, Northeastern lost the turnover battle with 12, and McCook with only 7.
