NJC golf returns to action with strong showing at Wyoming Event

When the NJCAA announced in July that the majority of fall sports would be pushed to the spring semester, it brought a great deal of disappointment to fans, athletes, and coaches of Northeastern Junior College. It meant volleyball would be moving to January, along with men's basketball, women's basketball, and nearly everything else.

That said, there was one sport at NJC that was not moved to the spring semester: Golf. Head coach Vernon Harbart's squad was back in action on Friday for both men and women and they reminded Logan County that the Plainsmen are still competing in one sport.

For the women, Darian Mehling earned the highest placement for either team. Mehling took 5th place for the women, finishing +33 for a score of 105.

Mehling wasn't alone near the top, though. Her teammates Kylee Monaco and Tiara Ginther both finished tied for 7th at +37 for scores of 108.

Hope Dutton squeezed her way into the top 10, taking 10th overall at +39 for a score of 111.

Finally, Payton Wallace and Jessica Carrigan tied for 11th at +46 for a score of 118.

It was a good start to the season for NJC. They'll look to keep that momentum going in McCook, Nebraska on Friday, September 18th.
