Wrestling Wins with Late Pin

Wrestling Wins with Late Pin

Nov. 2, 2018, Sterling, Colo.— After a long-awaited preseason, the Plainsmen wrestling team had their opening duel against Northwest Tech out of Goodland, Kan. The Plainsmen wrestlers met their weights and were ready to compete.

The first match up was Cian Apple in the 125s, who got the team started on the right foot with a win by a pin. Next up was Quintel Fuchs in the 133s who was unable to get the upper hand and lost. In the 141s, Sammy Eckhart competed, but in the end lost by decision. Sebastian Robles competed in the 157 division and was victorious with a pin. Josh Betts was the 165 wrestler to compete for the Plainsmen and eventually lost by a pin. For the 174 division, Dillon Thomas scrapped his way to a win by technical fall. Nick Banas wrestled in the 184s and was able to win by a major decision. The final match up came with Oscar Soto competing in the 285s, who needed to win by a pin in order for the team to get the overall victory. With everything on the line, Soto did just that and pinned his competitor to not only get the win individually, but the win for the team as well.

The Plainsmen will be on the road this weekend as they compete in the Cowboy Open in Laramie, Wyo.
